I’m very glad and thankful for this great news: I’m one of the finalists of JazzCompGraz 2017 for Big Band Composers!
The jury, composed by Ed Partyka (Chair), Michael Abene, John Hollenbeck and Jörg Achim Keller, have selected 10 finalists from 52 applications coming from all the world:

I’m proud to be the only Italian in the final. As a finalist, I’ll have the opportunity to take part in the rehearsals of the KUG JazzOrchester and attend workshops with the Jury members. Sono i Bija i vincitori della VI edizione del Multiculturita Black Music Contest.
Si è conclusa la VI edizione del Multiculturita Black Music Contest, in occasione dell’International Jazz Day, organizzata dall’associazione Multiculturita JS sotto la presidenza di Giacomo Santorsola e con il coordinamento artistico di Alceste Ayroldi. Due i gruppi finalisti, entrambi pugliesi, che si sono contesi il gradino più alto del podio e il premio in denaro di euro 500,00 con un’esibizione di trenta minuti a testa. … Il trio ha dato prova di un sound particolarmente roccioso, ricco di tensioni e con una perfetta padronanze delle dinamiche supportata da un eccellente interplay. … La giuria, formata da Emanuele Dimundo (direttore artistico del Beat Onto Jazz Festival), Antonello Boezio (direttore di Music Academy Bari, docente, musicista), Giuseppe Bolognini (didatta, musicista e producer), Marco Losavio (editor in chief e webmaster di Jazzitali), Alceste Ayroldi (critico musicale), Michele Laricchia (Vicesindaco del comune di Capurso, ideatore del Multiculturita Summer Jazz Festival)

Bija finalisti al MULTICULTURITA BLACK MUSIC CONTEST
Particolarmente complesso il compito della giuria che ha dovuto procedere nella dolorosa selezione e decretare i due finalisti, così come previsto dal bando di concorso, che prenderanno parte alla finale della VI Edizione del Multiculturita Black Music Contest, organizzato dall’associazione Multiculturita JS con il coordinamento artistico di Alceste Ayroldi. La finale, che si terrà domenica 30 aprile a Capurso (inizio ore 18.00 presso la Biblioteca Comunale G. D’Addosio, giardini comunali, ingresso libero), parla pugliese, perché i due gruppi finalisti sono:
- Bija – Marco Puzzello, tromba e flicorno; Gabriele Di Franco, chitarre; Francesco Pellizzari, batteria e percussioni – Taurisano (Le);
- Formula Bruta – Christian Bevilacqua, trombone; Alessandro Semeraro, clarinetto; Antonio Epifani, chitarra; Nicolò Petrafesa, piano e sinth.; Pierfranco Tribuzio, basso; Giuseppe Santorsola, batteria – Monopoli (BA).

I wrote “Fida” putting inside all of my feelings in a very sad summer, and Antonella helped me adding the perfect lyrics….the tune is dedicated to my father in the Big Band version, now will be published in a ‘solo voice’ version and Antonella dedicated it to my mother…like a perfect circle..
